MITTENS ADDICTION
My Name is Michelle Sych and I am the designer behind Mittens Addiction. I have always been drawn to the arts, from a young I was inspired by my grandfather who was an artist. I have formal training in art and design but I am mostly self-taught. I love the creative process and using my design skills to solve the problem of fashion and function. I began my journey as a mitten designer 8 years ago, and I love the process of sourcing my materials and redesigning them into an artful yet functional piece that can be worn and appreciated for many years.
I am inspired by the connection we all have to our clothing. Textiles provide a security that we can universally connect with. The warmth and sentiment of a handmade sweater gifted from a loved one can leave an imprint on us. Our clothing is part of our memories. The texture, color, design and function are key to our everyday. Mittens Addiction is a brand that challenges the way people see their clothing. Looking past the former function as a sweater or coat, I take these discarded textiles and issue them a new purpose as a unique pair of mittens. They are thoughtfully crafted using high quality, reclaimed leathers, wool and wool blends. Each pair is one of a kind. I have drafted and designed my own pattern to be a fitted mitten. They will be fitted and mold to the shape of your hand with wear. The leather and suede palms provide durability and function. They are finished with a carefully selected new, hand burnt wooden or vintage button detail. They are lined with a Polartec® fleece. They are designed for warmth and function in our cold Canadian winters.
Washing instructions: Spot clean or hand wash to maintain integrity of the fibers. Regular leather or suede care recommended. Customers may contact me if they have specific concerns.
