Slavka kolesar

Slavka is a visual artist and illustrator based in Jaffray, BC. She creates her illustrations in response to poetic or narrative text, marrying her background in visual art with her love of the book format. She is a published illustrator of numerous books including La Légende de Carcajou, which was a Governor General’s Literary Award Finalist in 2017. Her colourful paintings and silkscreens are visual translations of psychological landscapes, incorporating archetypal symbols and anthropomorphic shapes. She has always been drawn to visual storytelling and the artisanal process where the human hand is involved in each iteration of the creation of a work of art, as a way to keep alive the soul of the world.
